Fampo is Human Rights Organisation which was founded at Gaustad Mental Hospital in September 1997. The name of the organisation was then Folke-Aksjonen Mot Psykiaternes Overgrep (abreviated FAMPO) - which means "People's Action Against Psychiatrician's Abuse". The organisation was founded because several people missed an organisation which went into cases where people were coersively hospitalised in psychiatry or otherwise ill-treated by psychiatry. The organisation was founded at the place where Arnold Juklerød, Norway's most well-known dissident and coersively hospitalised, lived in a tent for years. It was realised that if one should succed in fighting corruption and human rights violations in Norway, one should create a broad cooperation against many kinds of abuse of power in different sectors, involving psychiatry, child protection and the legal system. Fampo therefore changed its name in 2007 - to Folkeaksjonen mot maktmisbruk, politistat og overgrepskultur (abreviated Fampo) - meaning "People's Action Against Abuse of Power, Police State and a Culture of Violations".
